Mexican Wedding Cookies, Jean Milford - 50 cookies
 
1 C. butter
1/2 C. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/4 C. flour
1 C. nuts
1/4 tsp. salt
Bake 350° 15 to 25 minutes
Roll in powder

 

 

Ramona Stromberg's Spritz cookies
 
1 C. butter
1/2 C. sugar - cream
1 egg yolk beaten
1 tsp. almond
2 C. unsifted flour
1/4 tsp. salt
Watch closely
Bake 350° or 375° 8 to 10 minutes

 

 

Sugar Cookies, Virginia Gaines
1/2 C. butter
1/2 C. oleo
1 C. sugar
1 egg
2 C. flour
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. soda
pinch of salt
Chill dough before making balls

Roll in sugar & cinnamon

Bake 350°

 

 

Santa Xmas Cookies, Virginia Gaines
 
1 C. butter
2 C. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. lemon extract
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. salt
4 tbls. whip cream
2 tbls hot water
1 tsp. baking soda

1/4 tsp. cream of tartar

5 C. flour
1 C. flour to roll
Bake 350°

Mrs. Taylor's Butter Rich Spritz
 
1 1/2 C. butter
1 C. sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp. salt (apparently recipe originally had salt but crossed out by Betty)
3 C. sifted flour - add one cup at a time
2 tsp. almond flavoring

 

Put in press and varoius shapes on ungreased sheet. Bake at 400 degrees 6 to 8 minutes.

Makes about 7 dozen

 
For chocolate spritz use same recipe except blend into the shortening mixture 2 squares unsweetened chocolate (2 oz.) melted.

 

 

 

Mrs. Taylor's Sour Cream Cookies - 7 or 8 dozen
 
1 C.shortening (1/2 butter or margarine)
2 C. sugar
4 egg yokes, well beaten
1 C. sour cream
6 C. flour (approx) do not use more than necessary as it makes cookies dry
1 tsp. soda

1 tsp. baking power

1/2 tsp. lemon flavor (hand-written edit of 1 tsp.?)

1 tsp. vanilla (hand-written edit of 2 tsp.?)
SALT hand-written on the right side of the card
Use instant flour or powdered sugar to roll out
1 tsp. water; 1 egg yolk, paste coloring for decorating
 
Cream sugar with shortening. Add well beaten egg yolks, sour cream, vanilla and lemon. Sift flour with baking power and soda. Roll and bake in hot oven - 450 degrees.
This is an excellent recipe, for many purposes.
Put two together with filling; use plain; sprinkle with sugar; cut into fancy shapes and decorate. Roll very thin and stand over them when in the oven.

 

 

Violet Edgington's Sugar Cookies
 
2 sticks butter
1 C. sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. almond
1 tsp. soda

1 tsp. baking power

2 1/3 C. unsifted flour

2 tsp. baking powder
 
Sugar before and after
Bake 8 minutes at 350°
