Columbia Records
Disc records were the downfall of Edison's cylinder playing Phonographs. Disc records were easier to store, could be played on both sides, and were cheaper to make. The following advertisement from Life magazine (February 26, 1916) promoted the double-sided record for its ability to be played on Columbia or Victor machines (by 1916 Edison had introduced a disc playing machine but it was a thicker disc that required a diamond needle and special reproducer).
