The Museum of Science and Industry has four phonograph related items that I observed on our trip to the Chicago Museum in July 2006.
An Edison Concert Phonograph (c.1901, 5" mandrel machine).
A Sears Record Player, adapted by E.T. to call home, was displayed with its "antenna" (umbrella), Speak & Spell, and walkie-talkie from the 1982 movie, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
A Phonograph Record was displayed as part of the U-505 submarine exhibit with the following text: "Listening to records was one of the most common forms of entertainment aboard the U-505. Eighty-seven records were retrieved from the sub. Only six of the titles were marches. The rest were popular tunes of the day or light classical music. Some were in French, pruchased by the crew in the sub's home port of Lorient, France. This record is titled "Rund um den Film" (From the Films), composed by Lubbe, performed by Max Mensing and the Walter Raohzke Orchestra." Museum of Science & Industry Collection.
A short animated movie included a character eating a record.
