"It's Howdy Doody Time" is one of the most recognized phrases and tunes of the1950's. Even kids who didn't grow up during the days of Doodyville and the Peanut Gallery know who Howdy is. President Reagan was called the first Howdy Doody President of the United States and it's a metaphor and image that continues to have meaning. RCA Victor produced this 6 inch 45 rpm in 1954 and it was selected for the Talking Toy Hall of Fame both for its icon status and as a representative for the millions of records that entertained children in the 1950's.

The Howdy Doody Marionnette made by the Peter Puppet Playthings ca.1952 technically isn't a talking toy but it did have a moving mouth and the original instructions read:

TO TALK - - - - Slip index finger in ring. Raise and lower mouth string.

Another interesting Howdy Doody toy associated with the record player was the Howdy Doody Go Round. This was a plastic disc with a figure of Howdy standing on it talking into a microphone. Howdy's mouth could be moved by a lever on the back of his head. The disc was placed on a record spindle and he rotated with the record.
