The "Talker's" Sentimental Side

 

The following article was written by the Trade Magazine The Talking Machine World in March 1907. There were many advertisements during this time promoting the accuracy and realism of the talking machine and in 1908 Victor would begin an advertising campaign challenging listeners to see if they could tell the difference between the actual performer or the record with their question "Which is Which?"

The appeal made in the following article asks the dealers to emphasize that the talking machine as an instrument that has the "human quality that he expected to find after reading the many advertisements lauding the talking machine." The suggestion is to have an artist draw an attractive cartoon "to stir ones thoughts to the higher things in life...."This sketch should tell in striking manner the story of the sentimental side of the talking machine."
